A$AP Rocky is a New York rapper & member of the A$AP Mob. He’s gained a lot of buzz after the release of a couple singles & now he’s putting out a 54 minute mixtape. The tape starts with “Palace”, where he gives an insight to trill life over an atmospheric trap beat from Clams Casino with some eerie background vocals. The next song “Peso” talks about the way he rolls over a spacey beat from A$AP Ty Beats while the track “Bass” is a prime example of how lyrical he can be over a murky instrumental. The song “Wassup” charismatically brags about himself over a meditative instrumental while the track “Brand New Guy” with ScHoolboy Q is menacing gun-talk over a menacing trap beat. The song “Purple Swag 2” with SpaceGhostPurrp & A$AP Nast is a druggy sequel to “Purple Swag” that’s just as fun as original & the track “Get Lit” talks about getting fucked up over something The Neptunes would’ve produced in the Late 2000’s.
The song “Trilla” with Nast & A$AP 12vy gets braggadocious over a twangy guitar while the track “Keep It G” with SpaceGhostPurrp talks about keepin’ it G despite losing friends over a jazzy beat. The song “Kissin’ Pink” with A$AP Ferg talks about codeine for a trippy instrumental while the track “Houston Ole Head” talks about the game he learned from his contemporaries over a smooth beat. The song “Acid Drip” talks about partying over a trap instrumental with some synths that remind me of Tyler, The Creator’s debut album Goblin. The track “Leaf” with Main Attrakionz talks about being sick of bs over an instrumental with a godly atmosphere to it & the song “Roll 1 Up” is an uptemo weed anthem. The penultimate track “Demons” vents about his stresses with haters over a cloudy beat & the closer “Out of This World” is about his recent success over a an ambitious beat.
Overall, this is Rocky’s best work. The cloudy beats are chilling, the chopped & screwed hooks are fantastic and A$AP Rocky’s charismatic delivery is truly charming
