Deltron 3030 – Self-titled review

After appearing on Handsome Boy Modeling School’s debut album So…How’s Your Girl? a year prior, both Hieroglyphics leader Del the Funky Homosapien & DJ Kid Koala join forces with one of the duo’s members Dan the Automator as the supergroup Deltron 3030 & this is their self-titled full-length debut (which is a concept album about Deltron 0 in a post-apocalyptic world set in the year 3030). Del & Kid Koala have had their own individual success as well prior this album (most notably Del with his 4th solo album Both Sides of the Brain which came out 6 months before), but all 3 of these guys come together show incredible chemistry on this album. The story was written very vividly & the production gives it a cinematic atmosphere. Even the skits on here are incorporated really well with the album’s storyline & they feature the likes of Dan’s Handsome Boy Modeling School cohort Prince Paul, Damon Albarn of Blur/Gorillaz fame & Sean Lennon. The samples are incorporated really well too, like the hook on Things You Can Do or the intro & scratching interludes on Virus for examples. Not only is this album an flawless unfiltered masterpiece from top to bottom, but it’s also one of the greatest concept albums of all-time

Score: 5/5
