Eminem – “RECOVƎRY” review

I have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with this album. The rhymes are more introspective than the rhymes on RELAPSƎ. On Talkin’ 2 Myself, we get a glimpse of what Em’s 5 year hiatus was like through his eyes. On Going Through Changes, he discusses about how Proof’s death & his drug addiction has made him change into a better person. On Not Afraid, he addresses overcoming the struggles he was facing. On 25 to Life, Em compares his fame to a life sentence. The closing track You’re Never Over is pretty much a dedication to Proof. Despite these mature lyrics, the pop-ish production is what REALLY brings this album down. He really doesn’t sound like Eminem over the type of beats that’re on this album. If the production was more fit for his style, I’d say that this is one of his best albums. It is what it is, though

Score: 2.5/5
