BigBabyGucci – “& When I’m Alone” review

Charlotte, North Carolina recording artist BigBabyGucci finally releasing his 3rd mixtape. Starting almost a decade ago off his debut EP ART HOE Collection, he would continue to build a name for himself by putting out 19 more EPs as well as 6 full-lengths & his last couple tapes along the way. When U Wake UpWhen You Go to SleepBaby 5 & the heavily alternative ANTI have all become his strongest material of this decade although I can’t the same for Isolation 2.5 a month after the latter. Internet Explorer was a fun redemption for himself & 5 months later, And When I’m Alone looks to keep his foot on the necks of his competition.

“Geeski” opens with an industrial hip hop intro talking about not knowing who the fuck he is anymore after coppin’ Plain Jane whereas “Earth” carries over the industrial vibes immensely sticking to the point because he can’t switch up on himself. “Life of the Party” instrumentally feels reminiscent of Indicud down to the utilization of auto-tuned vocals talking about being sociably lively while “Always Sunny” hopes his girl gives him another chance.

Austin Skinner makes the 1st of 2 guest appearances on “Pipe Down” talking about life seeming like a dream to them whenever they’re high just before “Blue in the Mouth” embraces a rage-inducing atmosphere flexing that his trap’s so crazy that he had to open up his own store. “Gangy” confesses that he isn’t trying to get out of his element anytime soon since he’s not in the usual mood leading into the 808s & Heartbreak-inspired “How Many Shots?” talks about puttin’ muhfuckas back in place.

“Talk to Me” hooks up some sampling chops boasting that a baddie has been watching him shine out here & trying to shoot her shot with him while “Smoke Break” appropriately embraces a slower direction in sound to kick off the 2nd half talking about getting high. “777 Angel Business” featuring Austin Skinner pulls from industrial hip hop once again dripped up in camo ア・ベイシング・エイプ until singing over some synthesizers that his girl wants to meet “By the Lake”.

Moving on from there, “In Sync” distortedly suggesting he better be cautious of how things are becoming all bad while “Death Note” talks about leaving anyone who pulls up on him resting with the dead. “Toonami” co-produced by Nico Baran of Internet Money Records gets reminiscent of the days watching the titular [adult swim] block of the Discovery Global subsidiary Cartoon Network while “Deep Dive” (3AM at Isabelles)” talks about the real ones always shining in the dark.

“No Molly” starts the final leg of & When I’m Alone running up his bands since he’s been grindin’ like the rent’s due while “All Me” talks about a lot being on his mind to the point where sometimes he wishes he’d pass away in his sleep, to which I say God forbid anything like that happens. “Saint Laurent Don” featuring Alois sends off BBG’s 2nd solo effort of 2025 with an outro reminiscent of the pairing’s collab EP Pastel earlier this spring while “Percs & LSD” begins the deluxe run talking about tripping off those 2 drugs specifically.

Hearing an excerpt of Malcolm X’s historic “Who Taught You to Hate Yourself?” speech sampled at the beginning of “Pray for Me” was dope confidently ready to hit a new level while “Passenger” talks about being untouchable. “Chasing the Moon” confesses to getting high because he doesn’t like the way he feels sometimes while “Cherry Red Seats” talks about being more toxic than he is lit. The final bonus track “Fear the Enemy” officially concludes with him responding to those claiming he peaked by keeping his mouth shut.

In preparation of House of Mirrors and Soda & Syrup 2 both coming within the next 52 weeks, & When I’m Alone embodies the blend of pop rap & trap that has made BigBabyGucci stick out for almost a decade. Coming off the heels of bbno$ biting him or most notably Drake on the Pusha T sneak diss “That’s Just How I Feel” off Drizzy’s upcoming 9th album Iceman, the North Carolina rapper/producer sticks to his guns except it’s more influenced by both members of KIDS SEE GHOSTS.

BigBabyGucci – “Internet Explorer” review

Right here is the 6th album Charlotte, North Carolina recording artist BigBabyGucci. Start in the summer of 2016 off his debut EP ART HOE Collection, he would continue to build a name for himself by putting out 19 more EPs as well as his last 5 full-lengths & a couple mixtapes along the way. When U Wake UpWhen You Go to SleepBaby 5 & the heavily alternative ANTI have all become his strongest material of the 2020s although I can’t the same for Isolation 2.5 a month after the latter. 6 months later, he’s redeeming himself with Internet Explorer.

“Full House” experiments with this synth-trap intro talking about the crib being packed & vacant simultaneously whereas “Switch ‘Em Down” keeps the synthesizers in tact flexing that he ain’t giving fucks no more. “I Don’t Like My Conscience” industrially advises there isn’t any easy street to take when asked to go down a road he’s already traveled while “Dusse” eagerly talks about his excitement for the check hitting.

Meanwhile on “Remedy”, we have BigBabyGucci over a more glitchy instrumental to discuss being out of his mind just before “My Worst is His Best Day” talks about being in the same place as he’s been at for a while & someone he knows not getting sick of switching gangs. “Freakhoesripspeakerknockers” shouts out the freaky bitches on top of refusing to take any Ls & hoping you run from the stray bullets, but then “Bags in the Wynter” talks about a girl wanting to fuck him because her last one didn’t.

“Trap Kitchen Gucci Ramsey” was a wavy end to the first half of Internet Explorer airing out a certified geeker for talking shit & wanting a feature from him while the rage-inducing “Yea Yea” suggests he might change the weather by making it rainy with the bands he has these days. “Vendetta Music” gives off a psychedelic approach providing the soundtrack for the 17 fans he claims he has seeking vengeance while “Can’t Go Back Home” talks about not letting anyone get too close to him without tripping on anything.

Moving on from there, “Hell Yea Brother” heads for an industrial direction once again prevailing through any hate that others try to send his way while “Tryna Be Me” gets even heavier with the synths talking about the envious type wanting to follow in his footsteps. The latter half of “Tales from Houston” has an acoustic pop rap flare to it following a boastful start while the pluggy “Tainted” talks about aiming his gun at your chin.

“Stain My White Tee” draws closer to the conclusion of Internet Explorer swearing that the new girl he’s been seeing hasn’t ever met anything like him in the past flexing he’s more slicker than here & “My Mama Don’t Recognize Me” sends off the LP with 1 final synthesizer heavy cut talking about being unrecognizable to his own mother, his hard to please demeanor & getting closer to his dreams of making it.

ANTI over 6 months later was a great capitalization on his versatility since he went for a more alternative direction on there & Internet Explorer has pushed himself into an experimental route considering the industrial hip hop influences on here occasionally venturing out in favor of pop rap or plugg & a hint of rage sprinkled in. Dude really pushes his artistic boundaries on this one & I respect him greatly for that.

BigBabyGucci – “ANTI” review

This is the 5th full-length studio LP from Charlotte, North Carolina recording artist BigBabyGucci. Start in the summer of 2016 off his debut EP ART HOE Collection, he would continue to build a name for himself by putting out 19 more EPs as well as his last 3 full-lengths & a mixtape along the way. Baby 5 came off some of his best LPs & EPs to date When U Wake Up & When You Go to Sleep respectively continued the acclaim, which the alternative-heavy ANTI will surely elevate.

“Senzu” starts by singing over a rage beat from thr6x that he would never make someone do anything they won’t ever want to do poppin’ a band whereas “Lost Control” featuring Aloïs brings the 2 together for a smooth duet revolving around themes of love. “How U Feel” psychedelically sings about people keeping it trill & others switching up ratting on him leading into the pop rap/trap crossover “Givenchy Paintings” featuring MDMA co-produced by Rafmade assuring his lover they know he’ll be there soon.

Meanwhile on “Xo”, we have BBG singing over synthesizers about an ex of his having a new man on top of a new bag & new problems just before “Cheap Thrills” goes full-blown cloud rap asking those using a short-lived moment of excitement or pleasure that is ultimately unsatisfying when they’re gonna pay. “Badina” has a bit of a Ye or the Nazi formerly known as Kanye West influence promising he’ll never keep her waiting while “The Fall Thru” is a 2-parter going through the motions.

“Sandbox Raps” starts the 2nd half of ANTI flexing that he got bigger toys in his sandbox while “Cape Town” instrumentally pays homage to The Neptunes down the 4-start count at the very beginning rapping about not knowing any mercy. “Under the Influence” hazily wants everyone that tells him they have his back to actually prove it, but then “Fancy & Focused” luxuriously suggests he might buy the bank since he’s so money hungry.

Nearing the final leg, “Hype” gives off a stripped-back trap vibe hearing the pussy fire only for him to leave after hitting it since people were gassing it up to him while the cloudy “Linkup USA” sings that he hope his lover follows him whenever he dips out. Bad Kids” featuring Thouxanbanfauni pushes further towards the conclusion boasting that both of them are 1 of a kind & “Air” finishes with a catchy heater needing his romantic interest to come on by.

Originally intended to be an EP, ANTI surpasses both When U Wake Up & When You Go to Sleep as the most essential entry in BigBabyGucci’s discography elevating his artistry to newer levels. The alternative production is a refreshing change of pace for him compared to his earlier material, demonstrating his range both as a rapper & most importantly as a singer.

BigBabyGucci – “Baby 5” review

Charlotte, North Carolina recording artist BigBabyGucci returning after 8 months for his 4th album. Getting his start in the summer of 2016 off his debut EP ART HOE Collection, he would continue to build a name for himself by putting out 19 more EPs as well as his last 3 full-lengths & a mixtape along the way. Coming off one of his best LPs & EPs to date When U Wake Up & When You Go to Sleep respectively, BBG’s looking to continue the acclaim of his last couple projects with Baby 5.

The synth-heavy “News” begins expressing his concern for the woman rockin’ his chain puttin’ on for those who didn’t make it whereas “Belong to Us” kinda takes a funkier route instrumentally talking about hoes that ain’t even his. “★★★★★ Dinner” featuring MDMA pulls inspiration from the west coast hip hop scene a bit claiming they ain’t even in their prime yet while “Dirt on It” brings the rage beats in the fold promising to make it work.

“Captain Crashout” maintains the hypertrap vibes of the previous cut flexing the nickname that his bitch gives him tryna turn her into a pornstar just before “Oxy Queen” further induces the rage talking about his chick doing oxycontin. The pluggy “Mark Zuckerberg” named after the Meta Platforms founder boasts that he grinds day ‘n’ night like KiD CuDi & having more songs than Drake, but then “Pink Sprite” turns the bass up to 11 pointing out haters tryna do it the same as him.

Moving on from there, “Temporary” goes hip house discussing a 1 night stand leading including a reference referencing the inaugural IWGPヘビー級王座, former 12-time WWE world champion, WWE tag team champion, 2-time WWE Hall of Famer & Real American Beer founder Hulk Hogan to the into the minimally produced “Stop Tryna Read on My Mind” telling a hoe he ain’t got time for to do simply that. “Phony Girl” featuring Bryant Barnes wraps up the first half of Baby 5 cooking up a rock/R&B duet telling their significant others they acting disingenuous while the chilled out “Instagram” breaks it that he doesn’t give a fuck about the titular social media app.

“I’m That Type” featuring Frais flexes the power, influence & money that they have in the Charlotte hip hop scene currently over an instrumental experimenting with Detroit trap while “Chris Tucker (Comedian)” psychedelically gets geeked as fuck leveling up his wallet to Goyard getting rich. “Local Member” pulls from the hypertrap scene once again finds him tired of people callin’ him their twin since he ain’t like them while “No Photos Please” gets on the alternative R&B tip again not wanting any pictures taken of him at the function.

Meanwhile on the acoustic “Tequila”, we have BigBabyGucci getting crossfaded in order to forget about an ex-girlfriend who he’s been thinking about latterly ahead of the dynamic 2-parter “Chanel / Solar” talking about how bad this bitch is & his life being bright. “You a Joke” hooks up synths & claps laughing off those who go get it all & choking while “These Days” moodily gets choosey nowadays.

“Slime Flow” continues the encore of Baby 5 showing the amount of respect he has for YSL Records founder & trap trailblazer Young Thug accompanied by pianos & synthesizers paying homage to Thugger’s flow telling y’all to come out & jump out the fire with a real one like him & “Pink Runtz” cloudily ends the LP admitting that he doesn’t like to smoke the titular strain of weed out in the field.

As much as I enjoyed both When U Wake Up & When You Go to Sleep, BigBabyGucci reached the same caliber he did last fall & it has me further anticipating the alternative album that he has coming out taking it a step further. His take on pop rap, alternative R&B, trap, rage, rock music & funk music culminates uniquely pulling inspiration from the likes of 2000s era Ye or the Nazi formerly known as Kanye West to Marilyn Manson & even PARTYNEXTDOOR.

BigBabyGucci – “When You Go to Sleep” review

This is the 20th EP from Charlotte, North Carolina recording artist BigBabyGucci. Getting his start in the summer of 2016 off his debut EP ART HOE Collection, he would continue to build a name for himself by putting out 19 more EPs as well as his last few albums & a mixtape along the way. But coming off one of his best LPs to date When U Wake Up, he’s closing out his 2023 by putting out a 9-track EP clocking in at 21 & a half minutes.

“Alone at Night” is a spaciously drumless opener talking about how he doesn’t know what’s wrong with him whereas “Full of Sin” admits that he believed he could find myself inside the drugs & never did in the end over a guitar-driven instrumental. “Night Shift” gives off a bluesy trap groove trying not to take anything serious for real prior to “Murder Shit” coming through in some Marni shit & that everyone knows for a fact he’s stuntin’ taking a futuristic approach to the beat thanks to Venny.

To start the 2nd half of the EP, “Genie in a Bottle” turns into mellower territory feeling like this woman was a part of him just before “Do or Die” refuses to fumble under pressure & simply call it fake over kicks & snares mixed with pianos. “Wanted 4 Murder” boasts that he’s wanted for killing the pussy over a moodier instrumental prior to “Provide 4 U” featuring Tony Shhnow talks about providing for their lovers so they never need bringing a dreamier vibe. “Icebreaker” closes out the EP continuing to make things atmospheric telling her to break the ice.

When U Wake Up still stands as my favorite full-length of the 3 that BigBabyGucci has put out & even though this EP was clearly supposed to be the deluxe version of that new album, I think him putting it out as a separate counterpart isn’t too bad either. We have him expanding on his versatility trying out some new sounds beyond trap & pop rap with alternative R&B, his performances/songwriting match the caliber he reached couple months ago & the Tony Shhnow feature was as entertaining.

Score: 3.5/5

BigBabyGucci – “When U Wake Up” review

This is the 3rd full-length LP from Charlotte, North Carolina recording artist BigBabyGucci. Getting his start in the summer of 2016 off his debut EP ART HOE Collection, he would continue to build a name for himself by putting out 18 more EPs as well as his last couple albums & a mixtape along the way. But coming off both his last tape Homesick & the sophomore LP Colors during the first quarter of the year, BigBabyGucci’s returning in time for Friday the 13th to drop When U Wake Up.

“Stargaze (Maniac)” is an electro hop opener à la Ye or the Nazi formerly known as Kanye West asking if he’s crazy as fuck comparing his cougar to the late WWE Hall of Famer, former WWE Champion, 2-time WWE United States Champion, 2-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, 4-time WWE Tag Team Champion, 2-time WWE Cruiserweight Champion, 2-time ECW World Television Champion & AAA Mundial Parejas Campeon Eddie Guerrero whereas “No Favors” works in some pianos & hi-hats talking about being unable to do any sort of favor for anyone. “Drug Bender” goes into psychedelic trap territory to give those who like to get a little too fucked up something to vibe to, but then “Feel This Way” triumphantly admits to everyone listening that he truthfully hasn’t felt the way he does in quite a minute.

Continuing forward, “Pecan Pie” blends these horns & hi-hats looking back on the days when he used to have to rob just to get by & make it through the struggle alive leading into “Early Bird” draws from 808s & Heartbreak for an electropop ballad about talking about how he can’t trust anyone yet he never learns. “Kapitol” weaves these pianos & hi-hats for an 85 second cut repping the titular clothing brand just before the synth-laced trap “Like I’m Famous” talking about the way this chick treats him.

“Ken Doll” goes for a bassy, atmospheric approach asking this Barbie if she genuinely hates him while the wavy “Seance” talking about he how he just had to lay someone down really badly because he was snitching to the feds. “The Brand” hooks to a somber loop & hi-hats discussing the fact that people be spending all the money they have not saving any for themselves in the end at all while “Midnite” gives off a jazzier edge to the beat interestingly talking about being high late at night.

On the other hand, “Product of a Playa” gives off a rage-inducing vibe instrumentally telling what it’s like to be an artifact of a hustler while “The Rush Before the Fall” dives back into the electro hop sound talking about being unable to miss his shot if he were to take it. “Bombay” intoxicatingly describes this chick wanting a night off while “Codeine Love” is an energizing dedication to sippin’ lean in the midst of partying out with others.

“The Madness” happens to be the last before the closer nearing the end of the album hopping on top of a cloudy ass beat talking about being so high that he’s looking over at the insanity & to close out the LP, it’s only feature Sik-K joins BBG for “Graveyard” wrapping it all up on eerie dark synth hop note providing some wicked imagery appropriately since it’s Friday the 13th & Halloween’s coming up.

I’ve been hearing about dude since this past spring when Colors & I can definitely see why people have been telling me to check him out because I enjoyed When U Wake Up as an album. He’s incredibly versatile primarily basing himself in the pop rap/trap styles with an clearly obvious Kanye influence & some rage undertones with catchy songwriting/performances.
