Brigid Bites – “Lil Tart” review

Davenport, Iowa rapper & dancer Brigid Bites coinciding the Gathering of Legends or the 25th annual Gathering of the Juggalos with her 4th EP. Creating the juggalette burlesque troupe in 2017 called Juggalesque, they’ve have since become a drawing attraction at the Gathering since then with her eventually joining Chapter 17 Records CEO/Psychopathic Records recording artist Ouija Macc on stage quite a few times since. However, she made a pretty solid introduction into the music world with Hatchet Girl & Pumpkin Spice respectively. She just dropped Hot Honey back in February during Juggalo Weekend & is following it up with Lil Tart.

The title track hops over a hip house instrumental to get things started talking about her shine being unstoppable whereas “Never Forget” takes a more industrial approach speaking to those thinking they could have a chance of avoiding her. “Neon Nightmare” combines hip hop & house music again comparing herself to a puppet master leading into “MCL (Mad Clown Luv)” showing her appreciation towards the juggalo family.

6 months to the day since Hot Honey marked Brigid Bites’ official return after a year & a half of not releasing a project, Lil Tart already reveals itself as my favorite EP of the 2 we’ve gotten from her this year. The production’s more experimental than what I’ve heard from her previously & ditching the trap sounds of her earlier material to emphasize the electronic influences a lot more prominently. Particularly hip house & even giving industrial hip hop a chance at the halfway point.

Score: 3.5/5

Brigid Bites – “Hot Honey” review

Here is the 3rd EP from Davenport, Iowa rapper & dancer Brigid Bites. Coinciding with Juggalo Weekend wrapping up, she’s returning by serving Hot Honey almost 2 years since Hatchet Girl.

The title track made for a hip house intro talking about having what you need & others not handling her spicy heat whereas the rage-inducing “Reap Wut U Sow” featuring Kasuke finds the pair reminding us of karma’s legitimacy. “My Money” expresses the love she has for her bread & the affection money has for her while “Loved 2 Death” somberly tells her younger self she’ll fly one day. “Beat ‘Em” finally ends with a sample of the Riddle Box intro tackling the idiom “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em”.

Those wanting to get into Brigid Bites’ music are gonna wanna listen to Hatchet Girl & Pumpkin Spice since I still feel like both of them musically present her to us in peak form but nevertheless, it’s still exciting to hear the Daughter of the Wicked Shit coming back with a body of work after doing a couple guest appearances & releasing a single or 2 only a year earlier. Production-wise, the trap/electronic sounds of Hot Honey’s predecessors are being recaptured & she’s hooking the underground up with the flavor they need.

Score: 3.5/5

Brigid Bites – “Pumpkin Spice” review

This is the 2nd EP from Davenport, Iowa rapper & dancer Brigid Bites. Creating the juggalette burlesque troupe in 2017 called Juggalesque, they’ve have since become a drawing attraction at the Gathering or the Juggalos since then with her eventually joining Chapter 17 Records CEO/Psychopathic Records recording artist Ouija Macc on stage quite a few times since. However she made a pretty solid introduction into the music world this past spring with her last EP Hatchet Girl, she’s returning in time for Hallowicked to put out Pumpkin Spice.

The title track produced by Elevated Focusion formerly known as Jonny Rythmns gives off an electronic vibe instrumentally as she talks about the titular spice mix making you feel incredibly alive whereas “Batshit Love” works in some synthesizers expressing her to desire to be insanely toxic. “D.O.T.W.S. (Daughter Of The Wicked Shit)” gives off an eerier trap flare to the beat declaring herself to be exactly that & “Stay Forever” is a groovy choice of a closer describing a carnival full of dead ghosts.

Hatchet Girl to me is still a solid gateway as to who Brigid is both personally & artistically, but I honestly think that she outdid herself a bit on here. The production mostly handled by Elevated Focusion is on caliber with the last EP as I feel like he continues to bring the best out of the Iowan Juggalesque founder so she can provide the soundtrack to the best time of the year.

Score: 4/5

Brigid Bites – “Hatchet Girl” review

Brigid Bites is a 35 year old rapper & dancer from Davenport, Iowa notable for creating the juggalette burlesque troupe in 2017 called Juggaleque. They have since become a drawing attraction at the Gathering or the Juggalos since then with her eventually joining Chapter 17 Records CEO/Psychopathic Records recording artist Ouija Macc on stage quite a few times since. But with the announcement of the 23rd annual Gathering being unveiled a couple days ago, Brigid is now delving into music in the form of a 10-minute debut EP.

The title track is a dance-influenced opener produced by Elevated Focusion a.k.a. Jonny Rhythms about pulling out the hatchet out her back & attacking a crooked cop as well as a dude in a mask standing in her kitchen while the song “Incubooty Call” takes a more occult route sonically for a dedication to all the wicked succubi out there. And prior to the “Heartbeat”outro, the final song “Branded” ties things up nicely with a cloudy trap banger courtesy of Devereaux encouraging everyone to burn down the fucking house.

Coming away from Hatchet Girl, it’s most definitely an impressive introduction as to who Brigid is both musically & personally to the point where I’m excited to watch her grow as an artist from hereon out. Jonny Rhythms & Devereaux both cook up song freshly detailed production on their parts as she establishes herself as a fresh new face in the underground wicked shit scene with some cutthroat lyrical performances. As someone who has mad clown luv for all juggalos throughout the history of the Dark Carnival since I too know what it’s like to be misunderstood & an outcast, it’s always exciting to see your homies succeeding
