Danny G – “WTF Daniel!?” review

Danny G is a producer, DJ & occasional rapper from Detroit, Michigan notable for being an in-house producer for Lando Bando’s very own EMPIRE Distribution imprint The Hip Hop Lab Records. He’s gone on to produce some of the biggest names in the Detroit/Flint trap scenes from the ShittyBoyz to Rio da Yung O.G. & RMC Mike, expanding his production rapport greatly all of 2025 from Bruiser Wolf to most recently Icewear Vezzo yesterday. However, Danny’s celebrating Halloween with a debut album of his own after announcing it 12 hours earlier.

“Dynaco” by Babytron made for a promising intro talking about tripling his net worth as opposed to what Google will say whereas “Larry Bird” by DJ Lucas co-produced by Jakesand decently references the former 3-time NBA champion of the same name. “Gotta Have It” by Kasher Quon talks about trying to put someone afraid of taking risks on just before the cold-blooded “Roomba” by Joeyy that Danny & Carlo Anthony cooked up likens his Glock to a lightsaber.

$kid & Danny share a moment together trading bars with “Newsport” talking about puffin’ Newports in a brand new 2-door whip leading into “Heat Streak” by Krispylife Kidd embracing a Flint sound flexing that Danny paid him a reasonable $54K for his appearance. “Kpop” by Certified Trapper works in a vibraphone talking about flaming people with the blick while “Kith” by Since99 & $weet-T trades the mic back-&-forth with each other.

“Starbury” by Babytron & ZelooperZ pairs the 2 so they can go hard until they’re cremated in urns while “The Yoyer in the Froyer” by Big Bye feels more like a spoken word interlude rather than carrying over that Paper Plates energy, which disappoints me. “Shottas Music” by Louie Ray, RMC Mike & YN Jay links up with each of her for a Flint trap ode to the gangsters around their parts while “Alpha Bay” by Danny G himself featuring LG Deno Skeno & $weet-T serves base that will melt faces off.

Ankith Woods’ performance on “Guitar Hero” was alright despite the nod to the popular series of rhythm games celebrating it’s 2-decade anniversary while “F&N” by $weet-T surpasses “Kith” & “Alpha Bay” in my opinion, recapturing the $weet & Silent Dan aura with Helluva’s asistance. Since99 returns by $weet-T’s side during “Marquis Chris” causing pandemonium & madness while “I Want It All” by Big Quis talks about desiring the finer things in life

Finishing up Danny’s debut, he hops back on the mic 1 last time for the song “Darius Rucker” featuring ChoppaLee turning up the Northern California influences referencing Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman of the same name while “It’s Funny” by Stanwill talks about not giving a fuck who’s fake because he’s surrounded by real ones. “Back Talk” by Fordio & MJPaid recaptures the chemistry of their Made & $tyle collab tape while “Sometimes” by Babytron finishes things the way he started it.

One of my personal favorite producers in the Detroit/Flint sound subgenres of trap, Danny G’s full-length studio debut was an exciting surprise to me although I didn’t enjoy it as much as Jakesand’s 2nd EP Sandbox last summer. Although I have no complaints regarding Danny’s production, one of my biggest criticisms regarding WTF Daniel!? boils down to the list of performers over his beats being some what inconsistent.

$weet-T – “$weet & Silent Dan” review

Michigan rapper $weet-T locking in with Danny G for his 3rd studio LP. Introducing himself alongside $kid for the collaborative EPs Monkey Business & Fancy Off Fiends respectively, it wasn’t too long thereafter when Lando Bando signed him to The Hip Hop Lab Records & properly introduced himself with the debut Sweet Talk. The sophomore effort Sweeten the Pot quickly became the finest body of work we’ve hears from him by himself, with $weet & Silent Dan looking to rival it.

“Jay & Silent Bob” featuring Danny G begins by likening themselves to the popular View Askewniverse characters of the same name whereas “Proceed with Caution” featuring J1Hunnit talks about the way both of them be living over a Detroit trap beat. “Big League Pitchin’” featuring $kid finds the pair trading verses with one another for old time’s sake recapturing the vibes of their early EPs, but “Moby Dick” featuring 1Up Tee merely doesn’t entertain me as much.

Brezden joins $weet-T for “Malcolm in the Middle” referencing the Fox Corporation’s flagship property’s early 2000s sitcom ahead of the upcoming Life’s Still Unfair miniseries premiering on The Walt Disney Company-owned Disney+ next Christmas while “Shakesphere” talks about his words rattling the globe as he keeps getting his stack on. “Ludacris Pape” takes 2 & a half minutes to flex his wealth leading into “Fishbones” talking about making it rain.

“Salt Water Taffy” featuring DJ Lucas links up over a piano instrumental co-produced by Jakesand to advise that it wouldn’t be wise to be hatin’ on their respective movements while “Big $weet” talks about doing shit that nobody else in his field could possibly do. “How Many Times” cautions of crews winding up chalked fucking with THHL & once “Tilapia” featuring Babytron references Canelo Álvarez, the closer “Chris Hansen” finishes with $weet talking about being in the deep end.

Nearly 8 months since he had to Sweeten the Pot a little, $weet & Silent Dan once again makes another example as to why $weet-T’s one of the most overlooked artists on The Hip Hop Lab’s roster. Danny G’s production here a lot like what we’ve heard from in the past cohesively sticks to the Detroit sound, bringing a stronger guest list to the table than last time to compliment Big $weet.

TR Dee – “Crunch Time” review

Detroit rapper TR Dee tapping in with Danny G for his 4th mixtape. Notable for being 1/3 of the ShittyBoyz alongside Babytron & Stanwill signing to Lando Bando’s own The Hip Hop Lab Records, he also began carving a path for himself as a solo artist off his first couple mixtapes Trapped in My Bag & Made for This ahead of his debut album M.I.P. (Most Improved Player). Coming fresh off Trapped in My Bag 2 several months ago, he & Danny are teaming up on Crunch Time.

“Zap Zone” comes out the gate with a stunning Detroit trap intro talking about the whole block having lasers on them whereas “Franklin Saint” co-produced by Jakesand references the main character of The Walt Disney Company-owned FX hit series Snowfall, which I’m a fan of. “Drunk in Love” talks about being addicted to money like it’s a drug while “Odd Future” by the Dookie Brothers gives a nod to one of my favorite hip hop collectives of my adolescence.

We have TR Dee talking about how nothing’s basic when it comes to him & the rest of his squad during “Take the Throne” rightfully boasting that they’re the greatest in the whole city while “My Glocky & My Chop” featuring MJPaid & $camaurion finds the trio trading verses with each other for 2 & a half minutes. “Glo Gang” crowns himself the lieutenant of the Dog $hit Militia while “Wizardry” pokes fun at people scouting & watching others play ball from the sidelines.

“Louie V” winds down the final minutes of Crunch Time talking about his materialistic lifestyle copping a duffel bag from the iconic French luxury fashion house whose men’s creative director, Off-White founder & RSVP Gallery founder Virgil Abloh passed away 11 months earlier while the closing track “6 & 0” discusses his preference of showing people what he does rather than giving them a whole explanation.

Contrary to many Detroit trap fans enjoying Crunch Time less than both installments of the Trapped in My Bag series or Made for This & M.I.P. (Most Improved Player), it’s another great example of what TR Dee can do by himself & having a singular producer by his side takes it to another level. Danny G’s production exemplifies why he’s one of the greatest beatsmiths in this style of trap & all 3 guest performers match TR’s level of lyrical proficiency.
