Doggystyleeee – “Calm Before Riches” review

Here is the 8th EP from San Bernardino, California emcee Doggystyleeee reemerging for his 6th EP. Coming up 7 years ago off his full-length debut Into Somethin’, he would go on to put out his last 7 EPs as well as 5 mixtapes & a couple more albums garnering interest to the point where WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg almost signed him to Death Row Records not too long after purchasing the label from MNRK Music Group to revive it. Blame It on My Crippin’Split Personality produced by AC3Beats as well as & Music with Substance were all welcomed to divisive reception although I enjoyed them personally, reaching the Calm Before Riches.

“Gangsta” samples quite possibly Tha Dogg Pound’s greatest song “Let’s Play House” coming to the realization that his girl ain’t ever been with a g before whereas “Play Yo Part” sends some subtle advise over a cloudy Mobb beat. “Over You” goes for a g-funk vibe instrumentally talking about his refusal to waste any time on a desperate ass bitch while “Let’s Play House” puts a soulful spin on the 90s west coast sound so he can talk about driving hoes crazy.

The song “Majestics” luxuriously kicks off Calm Before Riches’ celebrating SoCal altogether while “Don’t Make Me Trip” warns not to push him over the edge because he stays about that gangsta shit in addition to getting money & staying out the way being the only 2 concerns of his. “Different Flavors” lastly sends off the EP with 1 last Mobb instrumental assuring he could be considered a kingpin the way he slangin’ & getting it out the mud.

Caught in tha Moment a few months earlier was catered more to the ladies because of a desire Doggystyleeee had to increase his female audience & I completely respect it despite not enjoying it as much as the other handful of EPs that came out last year, but he preludes The Reawakening by taking it back to basics for Calm Before Riches. I like the fact he selected only a few producers on board instead of a singular beatsmith to recapture that 90s west coast hip hop aura & tell stories of the gangsta life.

Score: 4/5

Doggystyleeee – “Music with Substance” review

San Bernardino, California emcee Doggystyleeee reemerging for his 6th EP. Coming up 6 years ago off his full-length debut Into Somethin’, he would go on to put out his last 5 EPs as well as 5 mixtapes & a couple more albums garnering interest to the point where WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg almost signed him to Death Row Records not too long after purchasing the label from MNRK Music Group to revive it. Blame It on My Crippin’ produced by AC3Beats was a tight way to start off his 2025 & is whipping up Music with Substance following a breakdown of his Split Personality.

“Money Motivated” samples “Foe tha Love of $” by Bone Thugs-n-Harmony featuring Eazy-E talking about the bread keeping him inspired whereas “Men Shouldn’t Cry” tells the story of a strong man who went through Hell & back to tie up the first half properly. “In My Bag” starts the 2nd half of the keeping money in his thoughts giving off a modern g-funk vibe while “2004 Flow” throws it back to the crunk days. “Energized” works in sampling to keep his 9 by his side while the closer takes the final 4 minutes & 20 seconds to get “A Few Questions” off his mind.

AC3Beats could very well be my personal favorite producer Doggystyleeee’s worked with because their chemistry is so distinctive, but I do appreciate him giving Peso Talks a chance to shine behind the boards since Music with Substance’s production acceptably meshes modern & classic west coast sounds taking a significantly meaningful approach to the songwriting capturing the gangsta themes that made the San Bernardino lyricist so popular near the end of the previous decade.

Doggystyleeee – “Split Personality” review

This is the 5th EP from San Bernardino, California emcee Doggystyleeee. Coming up in the fall of 2019 off his full-length debut Into Somethin’, he would go on to put out his last 4 EPs as well as 5 mixtapes & a couple more albums garnering interest to the point where WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg almost signed him to Death Row Records not too long after purchasing the label from MNRK Music Group to revive it. Blame It on My Crippin’ produced by AC3Beats was a tight way to start off his 2025 & is back 6 months later to detail his Split Personality.

“Product of the Westside” blends g-funk & boom bap together for the intro talking about being made by the west coast whereas “Outside” gives off a bit of a nervous vibe suggesting not to fuck around before he hits the store 20 deep. “Blue Bandana” gets back in his g-funk bag to talk about his time in the streets being a part of the Crips leading into “Go Dumb” featuring Zoe Osama carries the g-funk vibes over for a mild collab.

Getting the 2nd half underway, “I’m the Shit” brings some pianos in the fold for him to brag & clarify that he doesn’t fuck around while “Myself” smoothly talks about making it on own capable of doing things without anyone else’s help. “I Can’t” cooks up 1 more g-funk banger advising bitches shouldn’t be around since they’ll fuck bodies on the other side & “Sinner’s Reflection” ends with by talking about being surrounded by death, pain & suicide.

Wouldn’t have thought we’d get another EP with him & AC3Beats, but I still welcome it because the latter has had a hand inside making some of the most vital music in Doggystyleeee’s career & they whipped another brief project where they continue to elevate each other from the production displaying old & new sounds or the San Bernardino lyricist opening up in regards to having 2 different sides of himself.

Doggystyleeee – “Blame It on My Crippin’” review

San Bernardino, California emcee Doggystyleeee linking up with longtime collaborator AC3Beats for his 4th EP. Emerging in the fall of 2019 off his full-length debut Into Somethin’, he would go on to put out his last 3 EPs as well as 5 mixtapes & a couple more albums garnering interest to the point where WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg whose cousin Mercedes Moné is the current AEW tbs Champion, 新日本プロレス STRONG女子チャンピオン & now RPW British Women’s Champion this past week following the current AEW International Champion 竹下 幸之介 becoming the new NEVER無差別級チャンピオン at レスリング • キングダム19 almost signed him to Death Row Records not too long after purchasing the label from MNRK Music Group to revive it. His last tape No Features Needed dropped last summer holding down a half hour’s worth of material by himself without any guests.

“Nightmare Off Evan’s St.” samples the Halloween theme for a g-funk intro warning that you’ll get shot if you fuck around with him whereas “Bacc on My Bullshit” throws it back even further to the early 90s west coast scene refusing to hang with lames. “Don’t Claim Me” clarifies that he doesn’t have a bitch currently while “Footsteps” embraces the g-funk sound further telling his new romantic interest to keep it g.

Trizz joins Doggystyleeee on “I Bet You Never Had” maintains a g-funk flare as they tell the women that they’re currently seeing they ain’t never had anyone like them just before “Nothin’ Like Yo Last” featuring Big Motion, Judy Drama, Rae Monique & $inClar3 comes off as a female counterpart of the previous track. The song “On Safety” brings the g-funk vibes back tryna find his way & “Nothin’ 2 Somethin’” ends by reflecting on his success.

Gearing up for his upcoming 4th album set to come later on in the year, Blame It on My Crippin’ preludes it with Doggystyleeee got one of the very producers who’s always brought the best outta him since he started to blow to help him craft a 24 & a half minute 8-track EP putting a bit of a new school twist on the g-funk gangsta rap that dominated the westside 3 decades ago.

Score: 4/5
