RRoxket – “Geek Monster” review

Here we have the 4th mixtape from Atlanta, Georgia rapper RRoxket. Emerging in 2022 off his debut EP Rixhie Rixh & the full-length debut album R.I.P. RRoxket, he would go on to drop 3 more EPs Happy Birthday RRoxket as well as RRoxket Valentine and Red M&M ahead of his debut tape Red Ranger that was preluded by his last EP High School Flunky. He put out a fun self-titled effort last Black Friday after officially signing to Sony Music, coming off Rixhie Rixh II to tell the tale of the Geek Monster.

“Purple” starts with a plugg intro referencing the titular protagonist of the Warner Bros. subsidiary DC Entertainment franchise Static Shock who was not only homaged during former AEW World Champion & AEW World Tag Team Champion Swerve Strickland’s entrance at Dynasty II in April, but I can’t forget to mention Netflix’s reasonably controversial purchase of WB earlier this past weekend either. Anyway, “Last Sound” goes for more of a dark plugg vibe instrumentally talking about wanting money & wanting to go much farther.

Things go for a terror plugg approach on “Raiders” repping black & white like the Las Vegas Raiders although I’m much more of a Vegas Golden Knights fan personally prior to “WOAH!” produced by Cade sticking out amongst my favorite tracks here talking about sending shots at people’s families. “Trip” meshes gangsta rap lyricism with plugg production for a few minutes while “BLAAATTT” ends the 1st half talking about being able to quick-draw because of the Glock by his waistline.

“Rowdy” begins the 2nd act of the Geek Monster taking a moment to address his darling just before another highlight “RR” jumps over a pluggy Hariroc instrumental talking about his stick blowing up like it’s dynamite. “Sweet Angel” continues by heading towards a pluggnb direction getting more lustful in terms of lyricism while “Addy” works in a joyful plugg beat from boolymon so he can talk about taking both percocets & adderrall.

The song “2 Faced” pushes further towards the back end of the tape once again combining the gangsta lifestyle imagery & plugg instrumentation while “Fuxk Blueface” obviously serves as a diss track towards Blueface, who recently came home from a 2 year prison bid last month. “Lifeguard” finishes by blending synthesizers & 808s talking about putting motherfuckers in Lost & Found if they got a firearm on them.

Something that I think should be mentioned until I get to my closing thoughts is that RRoxket has likely completed his Sony deal when Rixhie Rixh II came out this spring, so for him to finish his 2025 with an independent tape that rivals the successor to his inaugural extended play almost 4 years ago already by continuing to solidify his status in the plugg, cloud rap & dark plugg subgenres of hip hop has me looking forward to this next chapter of his career.

RRoxket – “Rixhie Rixh 2” review

Atlanta, Georgia rapper RRoxket returning with his 3rd mixtape. Emerging in 2022 off his debut EP Rixhie Rixh & the full-length debut album R.I.P. RRoxket, he would go on to drop 3 more EPs Happy Birthday RRoxket as well as RRoxket Valentine and Red M&M ahead of his debut tape Red Ranger that was preluded by his last EP High School Flunky. He put out a fun self-titled efforton Black Friday after officially signing to Sony Music & is returning to the essence of Rixhie Rixh.

“Bad Company” is this plugg-influenced intro referencing Super Bowl LVI champion & current NFL free agent prospect Odell Beckham Jr. whereas “Deuce” goes for a quirkier trap vibe instrumentally assuring everything will be ok the second he wakes up. “Oxycodone” gets back on the plugg tip so he can talk about his addiction to the previously mentioned opioid leading into “Accept” finding him being unable to get this woman off his mind.

Moving on from there, “Kids” shows affection towards both of his daughters & tackles fatherhood in general just before “Balenciaga Fabric” talks about going from the streets to business maintaining a plugg flare to the beat from Hariroc. “Beautiful Dancer” sees him hittin’ up an amigo of his buying whatever he be importin’, but then “RR Shit” goes full-blown rage likening himself to a rockstar since he inked the Sony deal

“Wake Up” goes for a cloudier direction talking about rollin’ another blunt up the second he gets out of bed in the morning while “Sergeant Dip” blends the plugg aesthetics with gangsta rap lyrics. “Never Shook” featuring Lil Tony atmospherically discusses refusing to back down while the pluggy “Field Trip” talks about being willing to bet someone snitched. “Codeine, Percocets, Marijuana” finishes with a single revolving around those 3 substances.

It’s already been 3 years since this guy introduced himself off the original Rixhie Rixh & he takes it up a few levels on the sequel, showing his growth as an artist in that quick span of time. A lot of the same sounds that were all over self-titled like plugg, cloud rap & dark plugg make their way on here except the experimental hip hop undertones get swapped out in favor of rage & the energy of it’s predecessor gets recaptured from a new perspective.

RRoxket – Self-Titled review

Here we have the eponymous sophomore mixtape from up-&-coming Atlanta, Georgia rapper RRoxket. Emerging in 2022 off his debut EP Rixhie Rixh & the full-length debut album R.I.P. RRoxket, he would go on to drop 3 more EPs Happy Birthday RRoxket as well as RRoxket Valentine and Red M&M ahead of his debut tape Red Ranger that was preluded by his last EP High School Flunky. Almost 5 months later, he’s dropping a self-titled effort on Black Friday after officially signing to Sony Music.

“Goyard” gets it all goin’ by jumping over a plugg instrumental showing off the new bag that he copped from the titular French luxury goods brand whereas “Wockhardt” hooks up a delicate backdrop with some hi-hats from Hariroc knowing the spot hot since he got fires going on there. “Pizza Box” featuring 2SDxrt3all keeps the plugg vibes going thanks to WhyCeg flexing that their Glocks be talkin’ to one another just before “Serious” advises to drop the addy since he’s going huntin’ sampling “Astrothunder” by Travis Scott.

As for “Abnormal Pedestrian”, we have RRoxket over more plugg beats boasting his Red Ranger steppin’ up for his gang & lettin’ out his anger leading into “Backwards” giving off a hazier vibe instrumentally keeping a stick on him as if he’s in battle & going shadow by putting on all black. “Free GBE” compares his trap to a lair with the way the chemistry be going on in there leading into “Flying” maintaining a plugg flare to count green as if he’s Irish.

“Bag Shipped” starts the final leg of the tape with the percs making him do backflips while “Brandon Ingram” brings some dark plugg undertones to the table weighing the dope in grams ahead of “Demon Takeover” produced by Goxan referencing WWE Hall of Famer, former 2-time WWE world champion, ECW World Television Champion, 6-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, 5-time WWE Tag Team Champion, 4-time & the final WWE Hardcore Champion, TNA World Champion & TNA X Division Champion Rob Van Dam.

Pushing further towards the final moments of the tape, the song “Bizurk” stands out with one of my personal favorite beats on the tape assuring that ain’t nothin’ takin’ off despite RRoxket’s moniker in addition to pullin’ up with the drums as if there’s a marching band out here & callin’ a homie Tity Boi as if he’s 2 Chainz while the shimmery trap closer “Who That Is” boasting that he’s a lamb since he’s not a goat quite yet & a real deal geeker.

There’s been a lot of buzz generating around this guy ever since this past summer when Red Ranger initially dropped & although I’m not embarrassed to admit I wasn’t all too familiar with RRoxket’s music until this eponymous mixtape came out, I can definitely see why he’s been becoming popular within the plugg & dark plugg subgenres of trap music making witty references & detailing the street mentality he’s had coming up.
