Darby O’Trill – “WIL(low)” review

Here is the 7th studio LP from Key Largo, Floridian emcee Darby O’Trill. A close collaborator of Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux, their debut together Piecemeal received critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic & signed Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & fulfilled it over 3 years ago with Gully, which is a modern day wicked shit classic. Amputate was a solid prelude to The Tomb, the latter was even better. Darby’s official C17 debut Creek became his best since Gully as did GARDeN last fall, taking us to the WIL(low) only a couple weeks out from the Gathering of Legends or the 25th annual Gathering of the Juggalos & of course The 2 Day War between Juggalo Championship Wrestling (JCW) & Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). Most importantly record-holding 5-time JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion 2 Tuff Tony looking to take the title back from former GCW World Champion & GCW World Tag Team Champion Matt Tremont in The Final Battle after he ended Mad Man Pondo’s 3rd reign at the JCW/GCW Showcase Showdown: The Violence is Right couple weeks ago.

“strangling my boss with my wallet chain” made for an eerie trap opener produced by none other than Devereaux talking about death residing in his mind whereas “i saw the magician pull that rabbit out of his ass” wickedly flexes the tricks he has up his sleeve. “biting my tongue because there is nothing left to eat” talks about rather being the clown than the man behind the mask while “the scent of a 3 day old corpse rotting in a flawda attic” professes himself as Emperor of Bugs.

Shaggytheairhead hops behind the boards for the uncanny “barglegore gurglebach & the curious case of the vomiting shoes” talking about death fulfilling him & following “if i wuz more like u i’d b better off dead” referencing WWE Hall of Famer, former WWE United States Champion, WCW World Television Champion & the inaugural WWE Royal Rumble winner “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. “the time i found bums having sex in a construction site porta potty” after the “you got anything else?” skit goes for a boom bap vibe finding himself unsure of where he’s going.

“da faladgulations ov mane” professes that he won’t ever become the type of person others want him to be while “i have alot of tattoos & most of them are shitty but she doesn’t seem to mind” harks back to the trap metal/horrorcore fusions on GARDeN talking about necrophilia. “17 pounds of crabdick at nates got me hallucinating, thanks parker” after the “1 nu message” skit keeps the heavy guitars & hi-hats in the fold to talk about a woman haunting him.

We have Darby feeling like the reaper’s close on the trap metal “is that a cat standing on my chest or my sleep paralysis demon?” admitting he never found his way home while “crippled by the thought of tomorrow” fuses trap & rock to talk about not being ok. “i ordered a falafel wrap and was served a severed hand on rye” tackles the theme of cannibalism over hi-hats & a nu metal riff that is until the “jerky jerrys” skit.

“drowned in a pool of kinetic sand” featuring Ouija Macc talks about not lacking intelligence despite their violent tendencies while “some guy told my girlfriend to dump me because im fat” opens up regarding not doing too well. “the vanilla scented mask of the killer” points out the reason he’s been getting hate & “now thats what i call an album no one is gonna care about” ends by talking about people not wanting him around because of him letting them down.

Once you’ve already gone down the Creek & past the GARDeN into the marsh amongst the vines where the lost souls gather, WIL(low) outdoes both it’s predecessors in becoming the darkest & most personal piece of work Darby O’Trill has ever made. Continuing to embrace the trap metal sound prominently, he near-perfectly takes us in the shoes of the lost & distraught wandering this earth searching for solace & thinking they’re alone.

Darby O’Trill – “GARDeN” review

What better way to come off Hallowicked than Key Largo, Floridian emcee Darby O’Trill releasing his 7th LP? Emerging in the fall of 2018 off his full-length debut Blood, Guts & a Whole Lotta Love, would go on to follow it with Fester almost a year later & has extensively been working with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux by bringing him into the cut to fully produce his 3rd album Piecemeal to critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic. Darby’s eventually signed a 1-album deal with  Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & fulfilled it over a year ago with Gully, which is a modern day wicked shit classic. Amputate was a solid prelude to The Tomb, the latter was even better. Darby’s official C17 debut Creek became his best since Gully & had a feeling GARDeN could join them in the ranks a month away from the Insane Clown Posse’s annual Ballas Christmas show followed by a livestreamed JCW Lunacy show.

“Diet Root Beer Shampoo” is a 100 second demonic trap opener that Devereaux of course laced talking about the portal to Hell’s Pit in the basement of his apartment whereas “The Sound of Suffering Trapped Skin” works in some hi-hats & guitars feeling murderous. “Quit Lookin At Me, You’re Making My Shadow Nervous” wants to know what the fuck you want over another trap metal beat while “Hell Been Callin’ featuring Shaggytheairhead & produced by Mythic Mindz recaptures the aura of 10 Bandz from this spring.

As for “Dick Down in a Bucket Fulla Beans”, we have Darby delving further down the trap metal rabbit hole feeling the fire burn around him just before “Crooked Pastor Blaster” serves as a sequel to “C.P.K. (Crooked Preacher Killas)” by the Insane Clown Posse & one that does the original justice. The bassy “Fiery Fish Pizza TMDWU” has some cool Memphis undertones throughout feelin’ like something’s talking in his head, but then “The Omen of the Body Bag” is another trap metal head-smasher.

“Multicolored Mood Ring” keeps the heavy guitars & hi-hats in the fold reminding us all that life & death is alchemy while “Blistered Hands Wipe the Sweat From My Brow” maintains a trap metal flare paralleling “My Axe” by ICP except he refers to a shovel instead of an axe. Shaggytheairhead’s only singular production credit lands on Skull Bone Soccer” giving a standard trap vibe so Darby can caution his disgustingness while the lively “A Man Made of Scabs & Guilt” asks why he even tries

Ouija Macc appears for “Baptized in a Vat Acid” aggressively leaving their opposition in the dirt while “Smokeless Tobacco Spit is Gross, Just Like You” goes trap metal again to spit the wicked shit. “Curse of the Ancient Skin Tags” infernally suggests a sign towards the end being close while “The Burden of Being” remarkably mixes trap metal & emo rap. “Close the Gate, Don’t Let the World In” heinously finishes his C17 sophomore effort by talking about being dead.

Being familiar with Darby since Piecemeal, he’s come a very long way in these past 4 years & GARDeN a lot like that introductory body of work alongside Creek & of Gully further proves further in addition to Chapter 17 embodying a new generation of juggalos. It’s more trap metal sounding than his previous material aside than the emo rap undertones, colliding that style with horrorcore in a tasteful manner.

Darby O’Trill & Shaggytheairhead – “10 Bandz” review

Key Largo, Florida emcee Darby O’Trill as well as Las Vegas, Nevada producer, emcee & fashion designer Shaggytheairhead teaming up for a new collaborative LP only a month after Darby had dropped Anemoia with Chapter 17 Records founder/Psychopathic Records recording artist Ouija Macc to significant acclaim. These guys have done numerous songs with each other in the past such as “Street Trash” & “Greaper Shorts” to only name a couple, so it was really a matter of time before they took it to the next level & got together to release 10 Bandz produced by none other than Devereaux.

“It’s Dem Again” gets the ball rolling with this off-the-wall trap opener talking about both of them being back in this bitch whereas “B U L L S H I T” works in a murky backdrop & hi-hats brushing off any nonsense that people try to bring their way. “Put ‘Em in the Dump Truck” has a bouncier flare instrumentally telling everyone else to simply shut the fuck up leading into “The Box” looking to put all their opps in a coffin. “Neva Mine” menacingly looks to take your whip & bitch at the same time since they caught you lackin’, but then the morbid “Fuck Shit” talks about admittedly trying to get themselves involved in some shit.

Meanwhile on “Perpetually Drifting Through the Void”, we have Darby & Shaggy hauntingly portrays what it’s like on the other side just before “Street Trash 3” serves as the final installment in the titular trilogy that Piecemeal began and Lazy & Crazy continued. “S Q U A D” draws near the end of the LP by aggressively talking about how some would never understand since they ain’t with the shit whatsoever prior to “F.U.T.G.” (Fuck Up The Game)” closing out 10 Bands with a misty trap vibe instrumentally as both MCs set out continuing to fuck up the game.

10 Bandz marks the first collaborative project to come out on C17 where Ouija isn’t one of the 2 artists performing together, opting for the label’s only other artist currently & even giving a chance for one of their in-house producers to shine on the mic with him. Needless to say: I highly enjoyed it as much as Anemoia last month. Darby O’Trill & Shaggytheairhead have always pinged off one another excellently over the years, they’re just bringing in one of the underground’s hottest producers Devereaux to elevate their chemistry.

Darby O’Trill & Ouija Macc – “Anemoia” review

This is a brand new collaborative LP from Key Largo, Florida emcee & Chapter 17 Records signee Darby O’Trill alongside C17’s founder/CEO & Psychopathic Records recording artist Ouija Macc. Both of whom have already established themselves in the underground, wicked shit scene at this point whether it be Ouija becoming the label that runs beneath the streets’ biggest solo act prior to launching his own subsidiary for Psychopathic or even Darby releasing his Chapter 17 debut Creek to widespread acclaim last summer joining his Lyrikal Snuff Productionz offering Gully celebrating it’s 2-year anniversary at the end of this month as his best full-length. Coronella with Trizz last fall became my favorite collab effort that Ouija has ever done surpassing We Never Forgot with Baby E right when C17 was established, but I had a feeling Anemoia could outdo both of those a month away from the first-ever tapings of JCW Lunacy.

“Kennel Cough” is a dark trap opener calling out all the juffs who be claimin’ they been around when they’ve never seen them around once prior whereas “Wafflehouse Warlock” works in this vocal sample mixed with hi-hats talking about being dead all their lives. “Darkmoon Talisman” brings a morbid trap atmosphere to the table thanks to Devereaux the demons in their heads can play hockey with their brains just before “Nugget Bowling” shoots for a ghostly approach instrumentally going straight for the dome.

Meanwhile on “Juggalunatic”, we have Ouija & Darby going trap metal to go unhinged leading into “Kidney Stones” talks about being able to promise something that you don’t really want over a bass-heavy trap beat with some bells. The Duke of the Wicked himself Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse appears as Anemoia’s only feature on “The Trees Have Eyes” cautions to stay out the woods over a ghoulish Shaggytheairhead instrumental, but then “Sage Allergy” continues with a fun banger about smokin’ until a motherfucker can’t see.

“Anemoians” makes a turn treading slower & cloudier waters knowing that both of them weren’t alone here while “Need 2 Kill Someone” delves further into the industrial trap sound talking about straight up murder. “Corpse01dotMDL” to me sounds like a bit of a hyphy/trap fusion being about the shit they be yappin’ & having work to do slammin’ a hammer on your skull repeatedly until it breaks while the 2nd single “Graveyard Shift” confesses to diggin’ these graves for days now over a demonic trap beat.

To start the last leg of the album, “Jokaroholio” murkily rubs in your face that the joke’s on you in the end while the lead single “Cobratoxin” is this grisly trap jurnt refusing to trust anyone who isn’t 17in’ in this bitch & Ouija dissing Lyrikal Snuff Productionz artist Cody Manson in his verse, which is a shame because I highly praised Cody’s sophomore effort E=MC Skelter couple years ago. “Worry Warts” hops on top of a sample-laced trap instrumental to not worry about the next man while “Death of a Summer” admits to feeling burnt out & hopeless taking the cloudier route once more. “Crossing Over” on the other hand finishes Anemoia with 1 last trap metal cut being unable to go home since they don’t have one.

Coronella only came out 7 months ago being completely unlike any other collab project that Ouija has done & Anemoia here already reached if not surpassed the bar Coronella had set. And when you think about them being the only 2 current artists on C17 as of me writing this, it’s an exemplification of the Psychopathic subsidiary’s strength. The chemistry between the both of them is incredibly natural as they jump over mostly trap-oriented production with additional elements of trap metal & cloud rap thrown in.

Darby O’Trill – “Creek” review

This is the 6th full-length album from Key Largo, Floridian emcee Darby O’Trill. Amputate was a solid prelude to The Tomb & the latter was even better, but is sticking with Devereaux once more for his C17 debut Creek.

“The Secret of the Mud” begins our journey with a shimmery trap instrumental & Darb bringing up the fact that pussies get stomped on only to have their bodies dumped in the swamp referencing the Comcast Corporation subsidiary NBCUniversal owned Universal Orlando Resort whereas “Spinal Fluid Smoothie” works in a mystic loop & hi-hats talking about being a piece of shit. “Red Stain on a White Robe” featuring HEXXX has a grungier trap groove declaring no one’s safe with their hatchets on them, but then “A Sense of Entitlement Doesnt Make Up for a Lack of Happiness” morbidly wakes up to scream fuck positivity.

Meanwhile, “The Return of the Paperboy” goes head-on trap metal as he freshly throws it back to his Paperboy days just before “A Moon Fit For Building Castles Under” featuring Ouija Macc has a trippier flare to the beat talking about having hope in death after fearing it for so long. “Whispers From the Medicine Cabinet” experiments with boom bap detailing his degenerate lifestyle leading into the ghoulish trap cut “I Hate People Who Don’t Know When to Shut Up” talking about death surrounding him.

“Within the Realm of Misery” admits that all he’s ever known is misery on top of a moody backdrop & hi-hats while “Neverending Ball Itch” humorously talks about his nuts itching hoping that it’ll go away over a plinky trap beat. “Massive Moron Mode” brings in the heavy guitars & hi-hats yet again having no time for any fuck shit while “The Shaman Requires a Sacrifice for His Services” gives me a woozier vibe talking about dark magic.

Sagan Ummo’s verse during the backend of “Poison in the Junta” is easily the most distinctive feature on the album as they discuss feeling slightly stupid off the loud pack with an aggressive instrumental, but the glitchy “Put a Bullet in the Head of Every Bigot on the Planet” picks things up a bit by setting out to murder every prejudiced person alive prior to the song “Room with a Moose” talks about breaking bodies down into pieces over cloud trap beat.

The penultimate track “All Day I Dream About Suffering” says it all subject matter-wise referencing the KoЯn single “A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Sex)” on top of a spacious instrumental with hi-hats that is until “I Use Roach Guts to Sweeten My Coffee” rounds out Darby’s official Chapter 17 debut with a distorted trap heater talking about the only way he’ll feel alive is if he crawls in a hole & dies.

Amputate & The Tomb were both phat in their own rights, but Creek over here is right behind Gully for Darby’s strongest album to date & his 2nd modern day wicked shit classic. Devereaux’s production is still rooted into the trap sound for the most part with the exception of a couple stylistic detours, Maezi666’s engineering is top notch & the Key Largo emcee cohesively takes us through what awaits beneath the surface.

Darby O’Trill – “The Tomb” review

Darby O’Trill is a 30 year old MC from Key Largo, Florida who first emerging in the fall of 2018 off his full-length debut Blood, Guts & a Whole Lotta Love. He would go on to follow it with Fester almost a year later & has extensively been working with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux by bringing him into the cut to fully produce his 3rd album Piecemeal to critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic. Darby’s last full-length Gully came out this past spring under Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & after dropping his 5th EP Amputate last month, he’s ringing in Hallowicked by giving the underground his 5th album.

After the “Path to the Tomb” intro, the first song “Vampiro Wrestled with ICP & the Misfits & I Think That’s Hella Fresh” is an ominous trap opener talking about recapturing the sure of former JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion, 3-time JCW World Juggalo Team Champion & アイアンマンヘビーメタル級王座 Mad Man Pondo acting like former 2-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion, FTW Champion, ECW World Television Champion, 3-time ECW World Tag Team Champion, JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion, NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, IWGPジュニアヘビー級王座 & the longest reigning XPW World Heavyweight Champion Sabu comparing himself to the current 3-time GCW World Heavyweight Champion Nick Gage known for being a BJW認定タッグ王座 & a 4-time CZW World Heavyweight Champion in his prime or 5-time JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion 2 Tuff Tony mixed with former JCW World Juggalo Tag Team Champion Mosh Pit Mike prior to Shaggytheairhead & .strife both tagging along for “They Sell Holy Water on Late Night TV” to criticize religion over some bass & hi-hats. “Harvesting Blood for Absolutely No Reason But to Do It” returns to an eerier trap sound with the title saying at all as far as subject matter goes just before Killator comes into the picture for the cloudy “I Think I’m Stuck in Hell, I May Need to Call a Friend” talking about being unable to tell if they’re in purgatory or not.

Continuing from there with “Orange Bloodstains on the Floor of My Kitchen”, we have Darby spitting the wicked shit on top of an uncanny trap beat just before “Don’t You Dare Look in That There Basement, I Told You Not to Do It” with Damien Quinn finds the 2 demonically cautioning not to even think about looking in the titular basement. The song “StillHoein2kForever” weaves some prominent hi-hats in to drop some wicked sex tape while Shaggytheairhead returns for the penultimate track “Idiots at a Comic Convention” to rep Juggalos over a sitar.

“I Puked All Over My Brand Nu Trueys (WTF!)” is the official closer to the album from it’s shimmering instrumental to the sung delivery admitting that he had to lose his mind to find out who he really was & “The Barista at the Coffee Junt Never Gets My Name Right” truly ends the album as a bonus cut, which I’m happy with considering that I initially liked it when it was initially released as a stand alone single at the Gathering of Dreams this past summer.

Gully to me has quickly become a modern day wicked shit classic in my opinion & Amputate was a fresh prelude of what was to come today, but The Tomb absolutely has me excited for what’s to come from the Swamp Society down the road. Devereaux’s production finds him expanding his sound much like a lot of the stuff he’s done in the last year & Darby lethally dropping the wicked shit with some wig-flipping flows.

Darby O’Trill – “Amputate” review

This is the 5th EP from Floridian emcee Darby O’Trill. Coming up in the fall of 2018 off his full-length debut Blood, Guts & a Whole Lotta Love, he would go on to follow it with Fester almost a year later & has extensively been working with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux by bringing him into the cut to fully produce his 3rd album Piecemeal to critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic. His last full-length Gully came out this past spring under Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & instantly became a modern day wicked shit classic so when it was announced that Darby & Dev were giving us Amputate as a prelude to The Tomb on Halloween, the anticipation was most certainly there.

“Carcass in the Car Wash” kicks off the whole EP with a synth-laced trap beat taking aim at all the knock-offs while the penultimate track “Take a Shower & Clean Your Clothes, You Smell Like Complete Garbage” has a more haunting atmosphere to it talking about drinking bleach. “I Hate Rappers Who Only Rap About Rapping” though sends Amputate off with an operatic loop, some hi-hats & Darby describing the sick world that we all be living in.

You know for a 3 track/5 minute EP, I think it’ll hold off just fine until we enter The Tomb a little over a month from now. Devereaux’s production continues to elevate, Darby lyrically continues to push himself as one of the best newcomers in the underground right now & the Jugg-A-Holics tags throughout are a fresh homage to DJ Trap-A-Holics.

Score: 3.5/5

Darby O’Trill – “Gully” review

Darby O’Trill is a 29 year old MC from Key Largo, Florida who came up in the fall of 2018 off his full-length debut Blood, Guts & a Whole Lotta Love. This was followed up with Fester almost a year later, but it wasn’t until a few months after the pandemic hit where Darby enlisted Chapter 17/Psychopathic in-house producer Devereaux to fully produce his 3rd album Piecemeal to critical acclaim & I’ll forever be grateful that he gave yours truly a shoutout on the closer. But in light of him signing to Lyrikal Snuff Productionz over the fall, Darby & Devereaux are back at it again for his 4th full-length outing.

“Enter the Swamps” is a bass-heavy opener talking about a spot in the swamps where the bodies rot whereas “Terrorizer” gets on his murderous shit over a morbid instrumental. Shaggytheairhead & Yung Strife tag along for the cold “Mac Meaties Burgers” talking about giving no fucks just before the bombastic “Down by the Lake” details how it’s been a long day digging graves.

Meanwhile on “Casey Becker’s Dead”, we have Darby warning everyone that you can’t escape him over an instrumental with an incredibly morbid atmosphere to it leading into “Your God’s an Awesome Fraud” going into more trap territory advising that praying isn’t gonna save you from being killed. Damien Quinn comes into the picture for the piano/bass infused “Bonechillers” returning to their serial killer bag, but then “Forget the Pigs, Feed ‘Em to the Fish” comes through with an outstanding sequel to “I Think You’d Make Excellent Pigfeed” off his last album Piecemeal.

“Puddlemane” details how disgusting he is over an unsettling beat while “Sack Full of Rotting Heads” works in some bells & pianos talking about making his victims suffer. “Sunderland’s Wunderland” has a more suspenseful tone to the production as he twists the lid off the chemicals while “Big Idiot Shit” with Cody Manson finds the 2 over some heavy bass yet again talking about breaking jaws before their balls dropped.

Following that, “Welcome to Primetime” tells the story of Darby falling asleep & seeing a man in a chair who’s been waiting for him over an occult instrumental while “3 Skulls with Blood” goes full blown trap metal talking about all his desires hurting him. “In the Kingdom of the Possums” takes a more murky trap route asking to bury him while “Swampicide” with Scum describes the voices in their head accompanied by a slow yet foggy beat.

Jigsaw Killa’s verse on “The Kirsten Dunst Experiment” has to be my least favorite feature on the entire album even though I love the concept of the problems they have as well as the rugged production while “Tainted Blood Courses Through My Veins” has an icier sound proclaiming the wicked shit will never die. Yung Strife returns for the song “Christ of the Blockheads” to get ready for combat over a blaring instrumental while the penultimate track “Body in a Void” with Insane Poetry sees the 2 talking about laying asses down in a hole over a bloodcurdling trap beat. “When Dust Becomes 1 with the Dirt” ends the album with a guitar & some hi-hats expressing his desire for the pin to be taken away.

I’ve been looking forward to this album for a little over a year now & in the end, Darby gave us his magnum opus with Gully because this is a modern horrorcore classic & further cements him as the future of the wicked shit. Devereaux’s production is a lot more darker than his more recent work with Ouija Macc & as far as Darby’s lyricism goes, he’s at his most macabre.

Score: 4.5/5
