Acetone Boogie – “R U Still Dead? (Remember Me)” review

Acetone Boogie is a 36 year old MC from Tucson, Arizona releasing his debut album Karma Circus in the spring of 2013 & dropping a sophomore effort The Divine Trickster during the summer of 2017 respectively. He has since joined the Swamp Society collective, dropping Rayamiento & Southwest Phonk both produced by Devereaux along with forming the Gloom Unit with Frankie Goldie. And to coincide with him performing at the Gathering of Legends next month, his 3rd studio LP looks to gives juggalos a preview of what’s to come during his set.

After the “R U Still Dead?” intro, the first song “Gittin’ Nutty” was a great southwest phonk single talking about making money being reckless whereas “Self Inflickted Success” produced by Devereaux talks about working overtime simply because he wants what’s his. “Suffokate” featuring Jvztizzo finds the 2 fusing the Memphis phonk sound with horror-themed lyricism just before “Double Dosin’” thinks of the days when he had no worries or pain when the maggots get in his head.

“Mantra uv da Maniaccs” starts the 2nd half of the album talking about shawty making it crash like it’s broken & the cash flow leading into “Juggin’ in Hell” bringing a cloudy trap vibe to the table representing the juggalo lifestyle until he can’t anymore. “Disposable Stalefaced Raps” talks about people loving what he can do for them instead of loving him personally while “Santacruzriver” pulls inspiration from the Memphis scene once again keeping only real ones around.

The song “Dead Dude Muzik” starts the clock regarding R U Still Dead? (Remember Me)’s final minutes turning the Memphis influences up even higher fusing horrorcore & gangsta rap subject matter with one another prior to “Bleeding Out” featuring Jvztizzo wrapping everything up with a rock ballad & both artists we got to hear team up 18 months ago on their Children of the Moon collaborative EP produced by Shaggytheairhead getting emo thematically.

You’re gonna wanna give Rayamiento & Southwest Phonk when discussing Acetone Boogie’s EPs, but R U Still Dead? (Remember Me) sticks out as some of the craziest shit he’s ever done in his whole entire discography & any juggalo getting to see him rock some of these cuts on the Detonation Stage on August 14 at 1am at the Gathering will be very lucky to hear his continued artistic growth whilst celebrating the biggest family reunion’s silver jubilee.

Gloom Unit – “Come Heavy II: Mo Heavy” review

This is the 2nd EP from west coast horrorcore duo the Gloom Unit consisting of Acetone Boogie & Frankie Goldie. One of whom comes straight out of Tucson, Arizona & the other representing Sin City Las Vegas, Nevada respectively as part of the Swamp Society collective. Acetone’s been putting it down for the underground for over a decade at this point putting out a total of 3 solo LPs as of me writing this review & Frankie has been establishing himself artistically by doing a couple features & even releasing 2 solo singles. Come Heavy last New Year’s Day produced by Devereaux was a phat introduction to the unit & are returning 12 months later unloading Mo Heavy.

After the “Mo Heavy” intro, the first song “Money Makin’” is a dark-synth trap opener telling everyone to move out the way so they can get to the bread whereas “Honey Berry” takes a tropical trap vibe to the beat getting on their Gloom type shit. “D.M.M.D.I. (Devil Made Me Do It)” heads for a cloudier direction asking for people to check their shit in since they need it leading into “Denzel” calling for the roof to burn.

“No Sleep” continues the other half of Come Heavy II: Mo Heavy by Frankie Goldie atmospherically gettin’ on his count-up shit while “Raindance” manically declares that the Unit be running every piece of the underground at this point. “This is How It Endz” wraps up the duo’s 2nd EP with an Acetone Boogie solo cut that he dropped last spring by working in some sampling walking alone under the moonlight.

Over a whole year since Come Heavy marked their introduction to the the world, the Gloom Unit are back with another EP carrying over every single thing that made it’s predecessor a fun New Year’s listen as Devereaux expands on their dark trap sound in favor of drawing inspiration from cloud rap to the Memphis scene & both MCs leveling up their chemistry after a whole 54 weeks.

Darby O’Trill – “GARDeN” review

What better way to come off Hallowicked than Key Largo, Floridian emcee Darby O’Trill releasing his 7th LP? Emerging in the fall of 2018 off his full-length debut Blood, Guts & a Whole Lotta Love, would go on to follow it with Fester almost a year later & has extensively been working with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux by bringing him into the cut to fully produce his 3rd album Piecemeal to critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic. Darby’s eventually signed a 1-album deal with  Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & fulfilled it over a year ago with Gully, which is a modern day wicked shit classic. Amputate was a solid prelude to The Tomb, the latter was even better. Darby’s official C17 debut Creek became his best since Gully & had a feeling GARDeN could join them in the ranks a month away from the Insane Clown Posse’s annual Ballas Christmas show followed by a livestreamed JCW Lunacy show.

“Diet Root Beer Shampoo” is a 100 second demonic trap opener that Devereaux of course laced talking about the portal to Hell’s Pit in the basement of his apartment whereas “The Sound of Suffering Trapped Skin” works in some hi-hats & guitars feeling murderous. “Quit Lookin At Me, You’re Making My Shadow Nervous” wants to know what the fuck you want over another trap metal beat while “Hell Been Callin’ featuring Shaggytheairhead & produced by Mythic Mindz recaptures the aura of 10 Bandz from this spring.

As for “Dick Down in a Bucket Fulla Beans”, we have Darby delving further down the trap metal rabbit hole feeling the fire burn around him just before “Crooked Pastor Blaster” serves as a sequel to “C.P.K. (Crooked Preacher Killas)” by the Insane Clown Posse & one that does the original justice. The bassy “Fiery Fish Pizza TMDWU” has some cool Memphis undertones throughout feelin’ like something’s talking in his head, but then “The Omen of the Body Bag” is another trap metal head-smasher.

“Multicolored Mood Ring” keeps the heavy guitars & hi-hats in the fold reminding us all that life & death is alchemy while “Blistered Hands Wipe the Sweat From My Brow” maintains a trap metal flare paralleling “My Axe” by ICP except he refers to a shovel instead of an axe. Shaggytheairhead’s only singular production credit lands on Skull Bone Soccer” giving a standard trap vibe so Darby can caution his disgustingness while the lively “A Man Made of Scabs & Guilt” asks why he even tries

Ouija Macc appears for “Baptized in a Vat Acid” aggressively leaving their opposition in the dirt while “Smokeless Tobacco Spit is Gross, Just Like You” goes trap metal again to spit the wicked shit. “Curse of the Ancient Skin Tags” infernally suggests a sign towards the end being close while “The Burden of Being” remarkably mixes trap metal & emo rap. “Close the Gate, Don’t Let the World In” heinously finishes his C17 sophomore effort by talking about being dead.

Being familiar with Darby since Piecemeal, he’s come a very long way in these past 4 years & GARDeN a lot like that introductory body of work alongside Creek & of Gully further proves further in addition to Chapter 17 embodying a new generation of juggalos. It’s more trap metal sounding than his previous material aside than the emo rap undertones, colliding that style with horrorcore in a tasteful manner.

Darby O’Trill & Shaggytheairhead – “10 Bandz” review

Key Largo, Florida emcee Darby O’Trill as well as Las Vegas, Nevada producer, emcee & fashion designer Shaggytheairhead teaming up for a new collaborative LP only a month after Darby had dropped Anemoia with Chapter 17 Records founder/Psychopathic Records recording artist Ouija Macc to significant acclaim. These guys have done numerous songs with each other in the past such as “Street Trash” & “Greaper Shorts” to only name a couple, so it was really a matter of time before they took it to the next level & got together to release 10 Bandz produced by none other than Devereaux.

“It’s Dem Again” gets the ball rolling with this off-the-wall trap opener talking about both of them being back in this bitch whereas “B U L L S H I T” works in a murky backdrop & hi-hats brushing off any nonsense that people try to bring their way. “Put ‘Em in the Dump Truck” has a bouncier flare instrumentally telling everyone else to simply shut the fuck up leading into “The Box” looking to put all their opps in a coffin. “Neva Mine” menacingly looks to take your whip & bitch at the same time since they caught you lackin’, but then the morbid “Fuck Shit” talks about admittedly trying to get themselves involved in some shit.

Meanwhile on “Perpetually Drifting Through the Void”, we have Darby & Shaggy hauntingly portrays what it’s like on the other side just before “Street Trash 3” serves as the final installment in the titular trilogy that Piecemeal began and Lazy & Crazy continued. “S Q U A D” draws near the end of the LP by aggressively talking about how some would never understand since they ain’t with the shit whatsoever prior to “F.U.T.G.” (Fuck Up The Game)” closing out 10 Bands with a misty trap vibe instrumentally as both MCs set out continuing to fuck up the game.

10 Bandz marks the first collaborative project to come out on C17 where Ouija isn’t one of the 2 artists performing together, opting for the label’s only other artist currently & even giving a chance for one of their in-house producers to shine on the mic with him. Needless to say: I highly enjoyed it as much as Anemoia last month. Darby O’Trill & Shaggytheairhead have always pinged off one another excellently over the years, they’re just bringing in one of the underground’s hottest producers Devereaux to elevate their chemistry.

Frankie Goldie – “Vegas Winter: Jugg Motivation 101” review

Las Vegas, Nevada emcee Frankie Goldie of the Swamp Society collective & the duo Gloom Unit alongside Acetone Boogie releasing his full-length debut. For about a year & a half now, he’s been establishing himself as an artist within the underground wicked shit scene whether it be 7 solo singles or the Gloom Unit’s debut EP Come Heavy produced by Devereaux arriving on New Year’s Day to high reception from the juggalos. But after teasing Vegas Winter: Jugg Motivation 101 for next week, Frankie has decided to let Christmas come early.

After the “JM101” intro, the first song “CAKEWALK” begins with Devereaux who produced the entire LP working in strings along with bells & hi-hats talking about throwing money in the circle like it’s a seance whereas the lead single “RAWKZOFF” instrumentally gives me a bit of a Memphis rap vibe (i.e. One of my favorite groups Three 6 Mafia) coming to get his rocks off. “CODE BLACK” featuring Donnie Menace finds the 2 talking about being cold blooded killers over a morbid trap beat, but then “Rollie” exultantly lets y’all know it’s that time.

“CAVIAR DREAMS” featuring Darby O’Trill is a jazz/trap fusion getting that bloody money just before “BRIXINDASAFE” goes for a cloudier atmosphere refusing to behave since he stuck in his ways. “KATANA” featuring Kold-Blooded returns to a darker trap sound looking to slicing necks with the titular sword while “Lemon Drizzle” is a fun club banger about sippin’ dirty Gatorade without giving a fuck what a hater has to say. Another standout “BULLETPROOF COUPE” turns up the aggression mixing Faygo with Grey Goose & having the digiscale tippin’ on ‘em prior to the 6-minute “BIGMANEONDABLOCK” fusing trap, jazz rap & soul so he can count his digits.

Vegas Winter: Jugg Motivation 101 much like Come Heavy is living proof that the Swamp Society is a force to be reckoned with in the underground except JM101 will give you a better idea as to who Frankie is artistically & personally. He shows his influences from the Insane Clown Posse & Esham to the Triple 6 Mafia, Jeezy, Future & Lil Ugly Mane on top of Devereaux continuing to evolve as a producer throwing additional elements of jazz, soul & influences from the Memphis scene into his signature trap sound here.

Gloom Unit – “Come Heavy” review

The Gloom Unit are a West Coast horrorcore duo consisting of Acetone Boogie & Frankie Goldie. But after coming together in the fall & preluding their debut EP in the form of a few singles, Acetone & Frankie are looking to Come Heavy by properly introducing themselves to kick off the new year with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux behind the boards start to finish.

After the intro, the first song “Anna in da Attic” is an occult trap opener paying homage to the Insane Clown Posse’s best storytelling track ridin’ dirty with the chromes “Amy’s in the Attic” whereas “Blood on My Chucks” instrumentally gives off more of a west coast vibe to spit the wicked shit with the bells calling back to “Real G Shit” off of Blaze Ya Dead Homie’s self-titled debut EP & I just wanna say I mean that as a compliment. “Dead Ringer” shifts back into trap turf trying to figure out why they hatin’ just before “Bury da Bones” works in some pianos & hi-hats talking about how no one else like them. “LeanGutt” then closes out the EP on a triumphant trap note with elements of chopped & screwed dedicated to the thuggalos.

These guys have only been getting better with each single they’ve been giving us, so it was more than enough to convince me that Come Heavy was gonna be a promising introduction to who the Gloom Unit really is. Now that we finally got their debut EP to start 2024, it should absolutely please the juggalos & maybe even some G*59 fans too. Devereaux’s production is chiefly trap-oriented with additional elements of west coast hip hop or even chopped & screwed mixed in leaving it up to both Acetone Boogie & Frankie Goldie to further hone in their chemistry.

Darby O’Trill – “Creek” review

This is the 6th full-length album from Key Largo, Floridian emcee Darby O’Trill. Amputate was a solid prelude to The Tomb & the latter was even better, but is sticking with Devereaux once more for his C17 debut Creek.

“The Secret of the Mud” begins our journey with a shimmery trap instrumental & Darb bringing up the fact that pussies get stomped on only to have their bodies dumped in the swamp referencing the Comcast Corporation subsidiary NBCUniversal owned Universal Orlando Resort whereas “Spinal Fluid Smoothie” works in a mystic loop & hi-hats talking about being a piece of shit. “Red Stain on a White Robe” featuring HEXXX has a grungier trap groove declaring no one’s safe with their hatchets on them, but then “A Sense of Entitlement Doesnt Make Up for a Lack of Happiness” morbidly wakes up to scream fuck positivity.

Meanwhile, “The Return of the Paperboy” goes head-on trap metal as he freshly throws it back to his Paperboy days just before “A Moon Fit For Building Castles Under” featuring Ouija Macc has a trippier flare to the beat talking about having hope in death after fearing it for so long. “Whispers From the Medicine Cabinet” experiments with boom bap detailing his degenerate lifestyle leading into the ghoulish trap cut “I Hate People Who Don’t Know When to Shut Up” talking about death surrounding him.

“Within the Realm of Misery” admits that all he’s ever known is misery on top of a moody backdrop & hi-hats while “Neverending Ball Itch” humorously talks about his nuts itching hoping that it’ll go away over a plinky trap beat. “Massive Moron Mode” brings in the heavy guitars & hi-hats yet again having no time for any fuck shit while “The Shaman Requires a Sacrifice for His Services” gives me a woozier vibe talking about dark magic.

Sagan Ummo’s verse during the backend of “Poison in the Junta” is easily the most distinctive feature on the album as they discuss feeling slightly stupid off the loud pack with an aggressive instrumental, but the glitchy “Put a Bullet in the Head of Every Bigot on the Planet” picks things up a bit by setting out to murder every prejudiced person alive prior to the song “Room with a Moose” talks about breaking bodies down into pieces over cloud trap beat.

The penultimate track “All Day I Dream About Suffering” says it all subject matter-wise referencing the KoЯn single “A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Sex)” on top of a spacious instrumental with hi-hats that is until “I Use Roach Guts to Sweeten My Coffee” rounds out Darby’s official Chapter 17 debut with a distorted trap heater talking about the only way he’ll feel alive is if he crawls in a hole & dies.

Amputate & The Tomb were both phat in their own rights, but Creek over here is right behind Gully for Darby’s strongest album to date & his 2nd modern day wicked shit classic. Devereaux’s production is still rooted into the trap sound for the most part with the exception of a couple stylistic detours, Maezi666’s engineering is top notch & the Key Largo emcee cohesively takes us through what awaits beneath the surface.

Acetone Boogie – “Rayamiento” review

Brand new EP from Tucson, Arizona emcee Acetone Boogie. Emerging from the depths of the Dark Carnival a decade ago this spring off his full-length debut studio Karma Circus, the summer of 2017 saw the release of his sophomore effort The Divine Trickster & has since joined the Swamp Society collective forming the Gloom Unit with fellow Swamp Society member Frankie Goldie. So keeping that in mind, it makes sense for Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux to fully produce Rayamiento.

After the titular intro, “Carousel Spinners” opens with an occult trap instrumental suggests not to be looking his way since he be posted up with the criminals whereas “Oya’s Betrayal” featuring .strife talks about getting cracked in the mosh pit & not wanting problems with either one of them. “Witch Blood” featuring Darby O’Trill gets on some wicked cloudy trap shit asking if you’d die for them while “Spinesnappin’” aggressively takes a couple minutes to find himself breakin’ backs.

“Hitta Licc” starts the final leg of Rayamiento bringing some chaotic trap vibes into the fold with lyrics from a gangster’s perspective & after “All My Heroes Are Dead” featuring Jvztizzo gives off a murky trap atmosphere to the beat referring to themselves as outcasts when that’s what being a juggalo has always been about, “Been Been Wicket Shit” featuring Darby O’Trill closes the EP with both of them channeling Acetone’s southwest phonk style calling to put your middle fingers high.

There were always hints of potential on both of Acetone Boogie’s previous LPs, but Rayamiento elevates himself artistically & has made itself comfortable in being the greatest thing he’s ever done in this decade long career. Devereaux’ production on here is a vast improvement compared to the Tucson artist’s earlier albums & the guests are far stronger than they were during The Divine Trickster, giving Ace the opportunity to step up his pen & that’s what he sure as Hell did.

Darby O’Trill – “The Tomb” review

Darby O’Trill is a 30 year old MC from Key Largo, Florida who first emerging in the fall of 2018 off his full-length debut Blood, Guts & a Whole Lotta Love. He would go on to follow it with Fester almost a year later & has extensively been working with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux by bringing him into the cut to fully produce his 3rd album Piecemeal to critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic. Darby’s last full-length Gully came out this past spring under Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & after dropping his 5th EP Amputate last month, he’s ringing in Hallowicked by giving the underground his 5th album.

After the “Path to the Tomb” intro, the first song “Vampiro Wrestled with ICP & the Misfits & I Think That’s Hella Fresh” is an ominous trap opener talking about recapturing the sure of former JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion, 3-time JCW World Juggalo Team Champion & アイアンマンヘビーメタル級王座 Mad Man Pondo acting like former 2-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion, FTW Champion, ECW World Television Champion, 3-time ECW World Tag Team Champion, JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion, NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, IWGPジュニアヘビー級王座 & the longest reigning XPW World Heavyweight Champion Sabu comparing himself to the current 3-time GCW World Heavyweight Champion Nick Gage known for being a BJW認定タッグ王座 & a 4-time CZW World Heavyweight Champion in his prime or 5-time JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion 2 Tuff Tony mixed with former JCW World Juggalo Tag Team Champion Mosh Pit Mike prior to Shaggytheairhead & .strife both tagging along for “They Sell Holy Water on Late Night TV” to criticize religion over some bass & hi-hats. “Harvesting Blood for Absolutely No Reason But to Do It” returns to an eerier trap sound with the title saying at all as far as subject matter goes just before Killator comes into the picture for the cloudy “I Think I’m Stuck in Hell, I May Need to Call a Friend” talking about being unable to tell if they’re in purgatory or not.

Continuing from there with “Orange Bloodstains on the Floor of My Kitchen”, we have Darby spitting the wicked shit on top of an uncanny trap beat just before “Don’t You Dare Look in That There Basement, I Told You Not to Do It” with Damien Quinn finds the 2 demonically cautioning not to even think about looking in the titular basement. The song “StillHoein2kForever” weaves some prominent hi-hats in to drop some wicked sex tape while Shaggytheairhead returns for the penultimate track “Idiots at a Comic Convention” to rep Juggalos over a sitar.

“I Puked All Over My Brand Nu Trueys (WTF!)” is the official closer to the album from it’s shimmering instrumental to the sung delivery admitting that he had to lose his mind to find out who he really was & “The Barista at the Coffee Junt Never Gets My Name Right” truly ends the album as a bonus cut, which I’m happy with considering that I initially liked it when it was initially released as a stand alone single at the Gathering of Dreams this past summer.

Gully to me has quickly become a modern day wicked shit classic in my opinion & Amputate was a fresh prelude of what was to come today, but The Tomb absolutely has me excited for what’s to come from the Swamp Society down the road. Devereaux’s production finds him expanding his sound much like a lot of the stuff he’s done in the last year & Darby lethally dropping the wicked shit with some wig-flipping flows.

Score: 4/5

Darby O’Trill – “Amputate” review

This is the 5th EP from Floridian emcee Darby O’Trill. Coming up in the fall of 2018 off his full-length debut Blood, Guts & a Whole Lotta Love, he would go on to follow it with Fester almost a year later & has extensively been working with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records in-house producer Devereaux by bringing him into the cut to fully produce his 3rd album Piecemeal to critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic. His last full-length Gully came out this past spring under Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & instantly became a modern day wicked shit classic so when it was announced that Darby & Dev were giving us Amputate as a prelude to The Tomb on Halloween, the anticipation was most certainly there.

“Carcass in the Car Wash” kicks off the whole EP with a synth-laced trap beat taking aim at all the knock-offs while the penultimate track “Take a Shower & Clean Your Clothes, You Smell Like Complete Garbage” has a more haunting atmosphere to it talking about drinking bleach. “I Hate Rappers Who Only Rap About Rapping” though sends Amputate off with an operatic loop, some hi-hats & Darby describing the sick world that we all be living in.

You know for a 3 track/5 minute EP, I think it’ll hold off just fine until we enter The Tomb a little over a month from now. Devereaux’s production continues to elevate, Darby lyrically continues to push himself as one of the best newcomers in the underground right now & the Jugg-A-Holics tags throughout are a fresh homage to DJ Trap-A-Holics.

Score: 3.5/5
